Special Educational Needs and Disabilities (SEND) Local Offer

Your local council, the local NHS and other organisations collaborate to provide education, health, social care services and other types of support for children and young people with special educational needs and disabilities (SEND) from birth to 25.

SEND services are developed alongside children, young people and their families to ensure they best meet local needs (this is known as the Local Offer).

All information about your SEND Local Offer is available on a SEND Local Offer website so that parents and young people and professionals have the information they need in one place.

Websites show what services families can expect from a range of local agencies (including their entitlements) so that children and young people with special educational needs can be educated and enjoy social opportunities alongside their peers, in their local community.

Annual health checks

Young people between the ages of 14 and 17 who have a learning disability are eligible for an annual health check. This is an important opportunity to discuss both their physical and mental health with their GP and build relationships to help ensure their future good health. More information is available here. They should also get your eyes checked regularly, as people with learning disabilities are ten times more likely to have a significant sight problem. More information is here.
