Choose the right NHS service for you

A&E can be a busy place. If you have a minor injury or condition which you feel needs medical attention, but is not an emergency, it may be quicker to be seen at one of the Minor Injuries Units (MIU). Live waiting times are available here.

For examples of the type of injuries and conditions best treated at MIUs, as well as those that cannot be treat at MIUs, please see our Minor Injuries Units page.

If you’re not sure which service is best for you please call NHS 111 for guidance.

If people need medical help quickly but their situation is not a 999 emergency, they should call the free NHS 111 advice line, where staff are able to refer people to the most appropriate service. This includes referring people either to their own GP or to the out-of-hours GP service should they need it.

In the video below, Dr Mike Haugh talks about how you can make sure you're choosing the right NHS service.
