Ophthalmoscopy simulator for hospital

Eye-opener for League (left to right): Tamsin Sleep (consultant ophthalmologist), Patricia Roberts (Torbay Hospital League of Friends President), and Peter Welch (Torbay Hospital League of Friends chairman) trying out the simulator.
Torbay and South Devon NHS Foundation Trust has purchased a state-of-the-art ophthalmoscopy simulator for Torbay Hospital’s Eye Unit, thanks to £65,000 from the hospital’s League of Friends.

The ‘VR Magic indirect ophthalmoscopy simulator’ allows ophthalmologists in training to practice the most difficult ophthalmology skills, with immediate feedback on their technique, and no patients are required for the simulated training.

Tamsin Sleep, consultant ophthalmologist, said: “With this, we remain at the forefront of training and patient safety, with the best ophthalmology simulation facilities in the peninsula.”
