New service for Torbay Hospital

South Devon and Torbay patients can now have neurophysiology tests closer to home thanks to a Torbay Hospital League of Friends’ donation of new equipment worth around £120,000.

Neurophysiology is fundamental to the management of many neurological disorders of the nervous system, and it requires specialist equipment for diagnostic tests and nerve conduction studies.

The new equipment enables these diagnostic tests to be undertaken at Torbay Hospital.

Dr Ibrahim Imam, consultant neurologist, said: “I am very grateful to the Torbay Hospital League of Friends for funding this equipment so that we can save many patients a journey to either Exeter or Plymouth.

"The purchase of this equipment has enabled us to take our first steps in delivering our aspiration of a neurophysiology service closer to home for our local population.”
