CQC report welcomed

South Devon and Torbay CCG has welcomed the Care Quality Commission’s report about Torbay and South Devon NHS FoundationTrust, and congratulated the Trust on having 12 out of the 19 service inspected areas rated as either ‘outstanding’ or ‘good’.

Dr Nick Roberts, CCG chief clinical officer, said: “This is a positive achievement by the Trust, which was only formed last October, and provides a solid foundation for future development. It is especially encouraging that the CQC recognises the efforts of Trust staff to deliver high-quality care to patients.

“An overall rating of ‘requires improvement’ is of course disappointing but, given the need to merge two different organisations to form the Trust, is not surprising. It is in line with the Trust’s own assessment.

“As part of our efforts to ensure people in South Devon and Torbay receive the best possible care, we have been working with the Trust to tackle the weaknesses highlighted in the report.

“The Trust shares the aim of providing safe, high-quality and responsive care, and I am confident that by working together we will address the areas where change is needed as identified by the CQC.”
