An NHS organisation has been recognised for the career-building work it does for young apprentices

South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group (CCG) has been crowned as one of the best employers for apprenticeships in the South West at the 2014 regional Apprenticeships Awards.

The CCG, which is responsible for organising healthcare for the local population, has had apprentices as a key part of its business from the very start, recognising the importance of giving young people exciting opportunities for employment.

Marianna Gray, manager for the CCG’s modern apprentice programme, said: “Apprenticeships have always been a very important part of our organisation, so this kind of recognition is really gratifying. We at the CCG are all so proud of apprentices, current and previous, and we all benefit from the energy and enthusiasm they bring to the organisation.”

The CCG was named Newcomer of the Year, SME (small and medium enterprise). Despite being a young organisation, it has already had seven previous apprentices, six of whom have remained with the organisation, as well as four current apprentices.

Lucy Watson, one of the CCG’s current apprentices, said: “Even being nominated for this award in the first place was a huge honour, so to actually win it, especially considering the other employers we were up against, is incredible. It’s a testament to both the hard work we do as apprentices and the hard work the CCG puts in to bring out the best in us.”

Now in their eleventh year, the National Apprenticeship Awards celebrate the success of the country’s most exceptional apprentices and Apprenticeship employers.

The CCG will now go through to a final national judging stage, where they will have the opportunity to be crowned as the national winner in their category and to be featured in the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers list, produced by the National Apprenticeship Service.

All national award winners and the Top 100 Apprenticeship Employers will be revealed during the national ceremony on the 13 November at the LG Arena in Birmingham.
