About us

South Devon and Torbay Clinical Commissioning Group represents all of the local GP practices and is the formal NHS body responsible for buying and developing services for local patients.

We are a clinically-led organisation, with a number of local GPs working with the CCG as clinical leads.

We work closely with our local councils and Public Health teams to establish a clear understanding of local demographics, including:

  • the needs of the local population
  • the services are most valuable in meeting these needs
  • where the gaps are
  • what we can do to make health care services even more effective and accessible

We examine services to determine how effective and efficient they are, talking to clinicians and health professionals (doctors, specialists, nurses, allied professionals such as podiatrists, pharmacists, etc) to obtain the fullest picture possible on which to base our decision-making and recommendations.

We also canvas patients’ views, working with Healthwatches in Torbay and Devon, and are developing our own involvement groups to help us link with our local communities. When considering new service developments, we make sure this will result in better quality, better results for patients and value for money.

We make sure everything we do aspires to the highest standards of excellence and professionalism in the provision of high-quality care that is safe, effective and focused on the patient experience, as set out in the CCG's Constitution and the NHS Constitution.

We are also working closely with local organisations to offer greater integration of care closer to home. Hospital doctors, nurses and care professionals, along with GPs and managers, work together to develop innovative ways of improving your care and treatment - from when you first need, and throughout the journey of your care, in hospital and at home.
